A shelf becomes a newsstand. A newsstand becomes a library. A library becomes a collection of voices in print.

Letterhead, in collaboration with family-run custom-made furniture company, Wunders, and award-winning designer and upcycle aficionado Heath Nash from MakeSpace, created The Index: a reimagined newsstand designed to revive the romance of language through print culture, designed exclusively for Design Week South Africa. After collecting DIY publications and media from some of the most exciting voices in local writing and design, The Index unveiled itself as part shelf, part gallery, part library, displaying zines in various locations during Design Week, ready to be browsed and purchased.

The Index was exhibited at spaces in Johannesburg and Cape Town during Design Week South Africa, from coffee shops to galleries, marking the first edition of the newsstand.
